“Run, Forest, Run…” has become an iconic statement in our society. Many of my friends from high school have taken up running now that they are retired. Michael Head, pastor of Indian Hills Baptist Church in Silver City, New Mexico, is an avid runner and has competed in several races over the years. I have been sidelined from running since knee surgery in 2006. What used to be a chore, is now looked upon as a desired activity since I can no longer participate. It’s amazing how important something becomes when you no longer can no longer do it!

What does the Bible say about running? There are several allusions to running in the New Testament. We here at FBC Espanola, have been focusing on Hebrews 12. 1-2 and 14.

“Hebrews 12:1-2

(1)  Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us,

(2)  keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.”

This coming Sunday we are in Hebrews 12:14 in the 4th message of the 5 message series. Hebrews 12:14  “ Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness–without it no one will see the Lord.” Though the verse is short it is deep in significance. Pursue peace and Holiness!
